How to Play Drawdle: A Beginner's Guide

If you can play Wordle, you already know 90% of Drawdle, with one twist: it gives you the word up front and you use it to paint a picture instead of guessing it. Drawdle shows you the word of the day (yesterday's Wordle answer, so it never spoils today's); each row of the drawing is a color pattern, and you find real 5-letter words whose coloring against that shown word matches each row, until the picture appears.

See it in action

Every color is just a word compared to the shown word. Watch a few rows get solved against it:

How it works

Every tile's color compares your word to the shown word, exactly like Wordle:

Each row of the drawing is just a target pattern of those colors. Tap any row (in any order), type a real 5-letter word, and if its coloring matches, the row locks in and paints itself. Wrong guesses cost nothing, there is no six-try limit. Solve every row and the picture is complete.

Each row is its own puzzle (this is the big one)

Here is the one thing newcomers get wrong. In Wordle every guess narrows down a single hidden word, so clues stack up. Drawdle does not work like that. The word is already shown and every row is scored against that same word, but each row has its own pattern, so the word you find for one row tells you nothing about the next. You are not closing in on a hidden answer, you are solving a stack of small, independent color riddles that add up to a picture.

Now your turn

Time to try one for real. Below is a word of the day (shown to you, just like in the game) and one row to solve. Type a 5-letter word and we will tell you exactly why it does or does not fit, with the same rules as the live game. Tap Hint if you get stuck, or pull a new word and pattern with Another word.

Three ways to play

A couple of tips: start with the readable rows (lots of green, or all grey), use grey to rule words out, and do not chase a perfect word, the first one that fits the pattern counts.

FAQ

Is Drawdle free?

Yes, a new free puzzle every day with no account, plus an endless mode and a Discord version.

How is Drawdle different from Wordle?

Wordle hides one word and you guess it in six tries. Drawdle does the opposite: it shows you the word, and each row gives you a target color pattern. You find words whose coloring against the shown word matches each row, so your guesses paint a picture instead of chasing a single answer.

Does Drawdle spoil today's Wordle?

No. The word of the day is yesterday's Wordle answer, so playing Drawdle never gives away today's.

Is there only one correct word per row?

Often there are several. Any 5-letter word that produces the row's exact color pattern works, so two people can finish the same drawing with different words.
